The fate of the SS Eastland - and the hundreds of people who lost their lives that day in 1915 - has fallen out of our collective consciousness. That's odd, considering it's one of the worst maritime disasters in U.S. history. This is the truth about the Eastland disaster, the tragedy no one remembers.
There's no doubt the Eastland disaster was a tragedy but no one mentioned an obvious fact. The Lusitaina was sank that same year and since it was deliberately by a German U-Boat during WW1. It would've gotten more publicity outside of the state of Illinois that the Eastland would've. It also ended up in the history books since it was an incident related to the First Waorld War in spite of the fact America would be neutral for two more years unlike the Eastland tragedy that was a terrible accident and not war related.
